The Island has been pulling together in an almost unprecedented way to try and help support refugees and those affected by the war in Ukraine - including the SVYC acting as a dropoff point for collections organised by Catherine Allmark. Local legend and DJ Rob da Bank - and friend of this newsletter - was seen out and about putting his new yellow van to good use, collecting donations and Councillor Karl Love posted this video to Facebook of people in East Cowes packing up supplies ready to be sent to Eastern Europe. By Friday afternoon, two trucks carrying 44 tonnes of items had left for Moldova to help those whove ended up in the country bordering Ukraine as a result of the crisis. The convoy has been organised by East Cowes charity MAD-Aid which is run by Victoria Dunford, who herself comes from Moldova. Theres sure to be another push to collect donations next week - so keep an eye out for your local drop-off. Did you know you could fit the Isle of Wight into Ukraine on the map 1572 times - try it for yourself on MapFight - we may be a small Island but weve got a lot of heart for Ukraine.  From Harriet Hadfield's 5 stories. To read more pieces or subscribe, click here.
