The Seaview Sailing Trust (SST) proudly unveiled its 2024 Impact Report over the Easter weekend, marking the occasion with a delightful lunchtime drinks party on Good Friday. The event, held at the Sea View Yacht Club, welcomed an impressive 85 guests, including supporters, donors, and members of the local community, all gathered to celebrate the Trust's remarkable achievements.

This latest Impact Report, the second in its current iteration, highlights the Trust's extraordinary efforts in 2024, during which over 3,100 sailing sessions were provided to Isle of Wight Year 5 students. These sessions, offered free of charge, have given children the opportunity to gain valuable life skills, build confidence, and earn official RYA Dinghy Level 1 or 2 certificates.

A Mission to Transform Lives Through Sailing

The Seaview Sailing Trust, established as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in 2022, has a clear mission: to advance education and training for Isle of Wight primary school children through sailing and watersports. These activities not only enhance physical and mental development but also foster self-confidence and a sense of achievement.

The Trust builds on the Seaview Schools Sailing Programme, which has been run by the Sea View Yacht Club since 2017. With the Trust's support, children from 12 local schools are now able to enjoy a term's worth of sailing lessons, many experiencing the sea for the very first time.

Andrea Minton Beddoes, Chair of the Seaview Sailing Trust, reflected on the programme's impact:
"By coming week after week in the summer term, we see these children grow in confidence and embrace the challenges of sailing and the wonders of the sea. It is incredibly rewarding to witness how transformative this experience can be."

A Year of Growth and Generosity

The 2024 Impact Report also sheds light on the Trust's growing supporter base and the community's unwavering generosity. In 2023, over £200,000 was raised to secure the programme's future, with contributions from local fundraisers, regular donors, and charitable foundations. Fundraising efforts ranged from marathons and cycling challenges to fishing seminars and custom-designed jewellery sales, all in support of the Trust's mission.

This financial stability has not only ensured the continuation of the programme but also allowed the Trust to begin building reserves and planning for future expansion. The Trustees are already working on a 2025-2030 strategy to further their impact and reach.

Looking Ahead

As the Trust continues to grow, it remains committed to its vision of creating an inclusive and connected sailing community. The 2024 Impact Report is a testament to the Trust's dedication to transforming the lives of Isle of Wight children through the power of sailing.

The Seaview Sailing Trust extends its heartfelt gratitude to all supporters, donors, and volunteers who have made this journey possible. Together, they are not only creating sailors but also inspiring confidence, resilience, and a love for the sea in the next generation.
