New RIB 'Ella' Christened at Sea View Yacht Club

Sea View Yacht Club proudly honored the memory of Ella Simonds with the christening of its newest Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB), 'Ella,' a 6.8m vessel equipped with a powerful 100-horsepower Mercury engine. Delivered over Easter, just in time for the new sailing season, this state-of-the-art RIB was made possible through the generous crowdfunding efforts of Club members.

The naming rights for the RIB were won by the family of Ella Simonds, a cherished member of the Club since 1991. Ella, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 37, was a vibrant part of the Sea View community. A skilled sailor, she won the Swinburne Mermaid Trophy and spent her youth "messing around in Opis" before becoming a Club instructor. Ella also organised corporate events at the Club and was a beloved friend, sister, daughter, wife, and mother.

Her family shared their heartfelt reasons for the name, stating, "Having Ellas name on the water will help her young daughters, Olivia and Sienna, and her nieces and nephews feel closer to her as they enjoy the same waters she loved."

The new RIB, built by Bembridge Marine, joins the recently refurbished 'Joy' in providing safe, stable, and efficient access to the water. With seating for up to 12 people, 'Ella' will enhance the Club's sailing activities, particularly for those using the Seaview Mermaids and accessing moorings.

This addition marks a significant milestone for the Club, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable sailing experience for all members.
