Fitting Out Supper 2026 Last Night at the Club
Published 13:46 on 3 May 2026
Last night, the Club formally opened the sailing season with a sold-out Fitting Out Supper, welcoming 101 members and guests. An excellent turnout, and a strong start to the Bank Holiday weekend.
The Mermaid Room hosted a fascinating exhibition led by photography by Kenneth Beken, alongside displays exploring the history of sailing and nautical life—setting the tone on arrival.
Dinner itself was staged under the awning, which was dressed overall with flags and laid out with two long tables, alongside a top table. The space worked beautifully—visually striking, sociable, and full of atmosphere. The tables were beautifully finished with floral arrangements by Sara Bastin, adding splendour throughout.
The room—and awning—carried a great energy all evening. A proper club occasion.
Dinner was a highlight, with sea bream served as the main course and widely praised—well judged and well delivered.
Our honoured guest, Dr Jonathan Nainby-Luxmoore DL, Chairman of Experience Cowes Ltd, gave an engaging and thoughtful address. His reflections on the Cowes Week Bicentenary—and the wider opportunity for the Island—landed well with the audience.
The supper has been the centrepiece of a strong weekend so far, which has already seen the first Mermaid trophies raced for and the arrival of our first charter guests of the season.
A particular thank you to long standing member Adele Carritt, who masterminded the event with precision and care, resulting in a thoroughly well-received evening.
A strong start to the season—with more to come today.
