The Sea View One-Design Dinghy Class is the largest class within the Club.
This thriving class of beautiful classic design boats was founded in 1931. The class is still expanding from new building and we now have over 180 boats based in the village. We are proud to be the largest one-design classic dinghy class, sailing in a single place, anywhere in the world!
The Class season runs from mid-July to mid-September and includes a number of one-off regattas as well as races on each day during then season.
THE CLASS TODAY
The class remains faithful to the original design, whilst embracing some modern elements, such as modern materials for sails and running rigging, self bailers and the use of electronic compasses. The introduction of kicking straps in ???? was also a massive step forward, but the hull, spars and rudders remain wooden and the plans have not changed from the original design. The boats are all privately owned, except for one class owned charter boat, and kept on swinging moorings.
RACING and GENERAL SAILING
When we sail. Amber & Victory fleets in the evening. Amber Fleet 5.30pm Committee Boat starts, Victory Fleet 5pm Club Line start for those who prefer a shorter, inshore race. Or as part of the Morning Slow Handicap, including the SVOD Adult and child league for adults sailing with crews under the age of 12. From time to time we arrange group cruises and many class members enjoy going for a potter. Do we list the race series here? Weekend regattas, July Points, August Points, other sub series?
