Saturday 28 November | Part of our Winter Dinner Series 2027

The stories of lost ships, polar exploration and deep-sea discovery come to the Club this November, as we welcome David Mearns OBE OAM for a special talk followed by a three-course dinner.

A renowned marine scientist, author and shipwreck hunter, David has helped locate some of historys most significant wrecks, including HMS Hood and HMAS Sydney. His work combines painstaking historical research with the technical challenges of searching deep beneath the ocean.

David is expected to focus on his recent expedition to map and film Quest, Sir Ernest Shackletons final expedition ship, and Terra Nova, which carried Captain Robert Falcon Scott on his final Antarctic expedition. The expedition captured detailed imagery of both wrecks, offering a fresh perspective on two remarkable vessels and their place in polar history.

For anyone with an interest in maritime history, exploration or the stories behind extraordinary discoveries, this promises to be a fascinating opportunity to hear directly from someone at the heart of the work.

The evening begins with arrivals from 18:30, before Davids talk at 19:00 in the Mermaid Room. Afterwards, guests will move to the lower clubhouse for a three-course dinner, with time to enjoy good food and company and discuss the stories of the evening. The menu will be announced shortly.
