Actually we have thirteen of these large round steel marks, which were used in WWII to hold up anti-submarine netting. A couple of years ago Trinity House insisted they were all painted yellow, and we of course complied. Now some will have a little colour to help us distinguish which is which.
Outer Mark [7], Somers [U], Acland [A], Wreck [W] and Bertie [3] remain all yellow with black numbers/letters. While Bunny [stylised bunny head], Brookie [6] and Boom [15] have a blue stripe and their symbol painted in blue. Little Deb [8], Lollipop [S] and Jonah [J] have a red stripe and their number/letter are painted red. Pier Head has less yellow with the black antifouling painted just above the centre line (equator). It is hoped that this will make it easier to correctly identify the marks.
The new mark known as Sixteen [16], which is a plastic topcoat shaped yellow mark located near the orange start line, has been rename to Maudslay.
