A Warm and Successful Reopening Dinner
Published 15:10 on 16 Feb 2026
Last weekends reopening dinner marked a thoroughly enjoyable return to Club life, with 81 members and guests coming together for an excellent evening.
The highlight of the night was an engaging and inspiring talk by William and Susannah Garnett, who shared stories from their recent Baltic cruise. Their reflections were generous, entertaining, and set exactly the right tone for the occasion.
Guests were also treated to an outstanding dinner prepared by a kitchen team led by Sarah Hayward, alongside Chris Hayward, Paul Hayward, and their team. The quality of the food was exceptional throughout, made all the more impressive by the many hours of late-night preparation undertaken the day before.
The Club is extremely grateful to Sarah and Chris in particular for taking time out of their busy professional schedules to cook for the Club, and for doing so with such care, generosity, and good humour. Thanks are also due to the front-of-house team, whose attention and professionalism ensured the evening ran smoothly and the Club looked its very best.
The newly refurbished Mermaid Room looked resplendent and was much admired, providing a fitting setting for the Clubs first major gathering since reopening.
Looking ahead, the next key dates in the Club calendar are the Easter Regatta Dance on 4 April and the Fitting Out Supper on 2 May. Both events are now bookable (links below), and members are encouraged to reserve early.
A strong, confident, and very welcome start to the season.
