Sea View Yacht Club members Colin and Caroline Simonds and Senan Bottomley achieved an impressive second-place finish at the Thailand Platu Championship last weekend, sailing alongside Bermudian tactician Rockal Evans.

The team, representing the UK, delivered a strong performance in the sixth and final stage of this years Platu 25 series, hosted by Ocean Marina Jomtien. After a closely fought regatta, they finished runners-up to Australian skipper Chris Way, missing the top spot by just a single point.

Heading into the final day tied for second place with Malaysian sailor Rolf Heemskerk, the team rose to the challenge by winning two of the last three races. Despite their strong finish, a fifth-place result earlier in the series ultimately cost them the overall win.

Reflecting on the event, Rockal Evans said:

This was my first event as a professional sailor outside of Australia, and Im very happy with our results as a team. Im also pleased with how I managed the tactician role, staying calm and making some really good tactical decisions on the racecourse.

The regatta presented challenging conditions, with light and shifty winds forcing the cancellation of the second day and delays to racing on the final day.

We had really shifty and light winds the first day but managed to fight back each race from difficult starts, Evans added. The last day was tricky again with huge shifts at one point, the racecourse even changed by 180 degrees!

Congratulations to Colin, Caroline, and Senan on another outstanding international result, proudly representing Sea View Yacht Club on the world stage.
