Croatia Rally September 2023 - A fun Event for Cruisers of all ages!

Published 14:12 on 1 Mar 2023
You may have seen in yacht club communications that Nick Stuart is stepping down as Captain of Cruisers after six years. In the meantime, Michael Smith has very kindly offered to lead an informal rally in Croatia from 24 30 September 2023.
Croatia is one of the best sailing destinations in the world for a number of reasons: the islands are close together - so no long passages meaning it's safer for the inexperienced; the winds are generally much calmer compared to other destinations; and the islands and coastline are lined with ancient historical ruins.
As regards timing, late September is considered ideal with the sea still warm from the summer, and the winds steady. The plan is to start and finish north of Split (suitable marina tbc), which has been chosen on account of the good chartering options (of which there are many) and, more importantly, the number of flights to Split are numerous at that time of year.
Nick and Jenny Stuart will already be in the area with their boat, and Michael and one other are also committed to chartering yachts.
This rally will therefore definitely happen and will be a fun event. It would be great if one or two other SVYC boats could join us.
If the responsibility of chartering a yacht is a step too far and you would just like to join other club members, then feel free to express your interest and we will see if we cannot join you up with others. For all those who are interested in joining the rally (no commitment!), we will be holding an informal supper one evening in late March or April at the Royal Thames Yacht Club in Knightsbridge at which we may be able to get a guest speaker to tell us more about the area. Date TBC once we have an idea of interest.

We hope to see some of you in Croatia in September and/or at the informal supper at the Royal Thames.
