The First Mermaid Sail of the Season

To many, the arrival of summer on the Island is marked with the appearance of the wild garlic, to the Mermaid sailors of the Club, its the return of our wonderful, multi-coloured fleet. Looking immaculate after Nick and his crews' TLC over the winter, 9 boats took to the race track last night for the first shakedown race of the season.

The warning signal was given in light conditions, but in the minutes needed to get to the first mark, Jenny Hunter, the wind all but disappeared - Leaving the RO no alternative but to abandon the race. Noted from the deck was the fact that RearComSailing was the first back on his mooring and so into the bar. A moral victory perhaps to Si Birchenough?

Once all were gathered by the bar, the House team led by Toby jumped into action to give our sailors a gourmet treat. Chicken supreme, fondant potatoes and chantenay carrots followed by a lemon tart, raspberry coulis and sorbet. The presentation of the food was a Chris triumph (with a little help from the kitchen team!).

See you this evening. Hopefully the wind will pick up!
