Super-local top story from me this week as Seaview's sewage campaign - led by villager Raymond Simonds - has secured a public meeting with representatives from Southern Water and our local MP in attendance. Raymond also worked with Cllr David Adams to set up the meeting - scheduled for April 19 at 1800 at the Sea View Yacht Club. Local people will be invited to submit and ask questions about the problems we have here with broken sewage outfall pipes and stormwater effluent on our beautiful beaches. I spoke to Raymond yesterday as he confirmed the news and he told me he's expecting a full house, with some tough questions about the timeframe for repairs already agreed; the length of the new outflow pipes; and details about the current infrastructure for processing sewage. "I want to ensure no solids are ever allowed to travel down the pipes", he tells me, "This meeting is about making our beaches and swimming waters safe for everyone to enjoy and its good progress that Southern Water has agreed to come and hear the depth of feeling, and hopefully get their mess cleared up." From Harriet Hadfield's 5 stories. To read more pieces or subscribe, click here.
