Last week we learnt some details - amidst the never-ending "partygate" scandal - of the Government's Levelling Up White Paper. And the interesting news for the Island is that we are to be included among dozens of areas set to receive extra support for education. Alongside Portsmouth and Dorset, the Island has been identified in the 55 cold spots across England where education outcomes are the weakest. Speaking on his vlog from Westminster, Bob Seely MP told Islanders: "On the Island we haven't had the same access to opportunity for decades… and if there's one thing I want to achieve, its to make sure everybody has a chance to succeed on the Island… I won't be happy until our schools are some of the best in the country". Opposition parties have said the plans don't make up for historic budget cuts in education.
