Jason Lawrence Wins Commodores Trophy for Third Time

Sea View Yacht Club is proud to announce that Jason Lawrence has been awarded the 2025 Commodores Trophy for his outstanding sailing achievements. This marks the third time Jason has received this prestigious honour, a testament to his exceptional seamanship and adventurous spirit at this year's AGM on Easter Monday.
Attached to this article is a detailed log titled Its All About Salt! A Cruise Through the Cape Verde, which recounts his solo voyage aboard Slamat, a Sparkman and Stevens Sagitta 35. The journey, which spanned over 2,500 nautical miles from Gran Canaria to Cape Verde and back, was filled with challenges, breathtaking encounters, and remarkable determination.
The log captures Jasons voyage from January to March 2024, highlighting both the beauty and unpredictability of life at sea. Among the standout moments were navigating the fishing buoy-strewn waters near Dakhla, anchoring at remote and desolate locations like De Peche De Lamhiriz, and experiencing the vibrant culture of Cape Verde. Jason also faced significant mishaps, including a dramatic rigging failure 450 miles southwest of Gran Canaria, which he skillfully managed to repair mid-ocean.
The journey was not without its lighter moments, such as a startling encounter with a sperm whale and the frustrations of losing prized fishing lures to elusive catches. Jasons resilience and resourcefulness shone throughout, ensuring Slamat returned safely to Las Palmas after an unforgettable adventure.
