Seagrass and Us
Workshop for Children
10 - 10.30 AM: Welcome and Seagrass Meadowtation. (Not sure what she means by meadowtation though). Will get that clarified.
10.30 - 11 AM: Wax sculpting demonstration
11 - 11.30 AM: Wax sculpting with beeswax from Noble Bee Co.
12.30 - 1 PM: Wind Down
Small wax pieces collected up. Sculptures made by the participants will form a collective sculpture reflecting the multitude of voices that have joined in the Seagrass and Us project.
Alongside the wax sculpture participants will be invited to talk about their experiences on the water, their marine life encounters, and about the art they are making. (All storytelling is voluntary and permission to voice record will be asked.)
Background
Emily Stroud, Senior Engagement Officer for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, and myself, PhD student at UoP, would like to invite you to participate in a free art workshop.
The workshop is in collaboration with Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trusts, as part of the Solent Seascape Project. The Projects aims are to restore, reconnect and rejuvenate four crucially important habitats in the Solent - Seagrass, Salt marsh, Native oyster reefs and seabird habitat. More details can be found here.
The art workshop is taking place monthly at different sailing clubs with members of the sailing community, and local volunteer marine champions. HIWWT and I are joining forces with the water users of the Solent to co-create various art pieces to communicate the understanding and feelings of these communities regarding seagrass habitat and anchoring in and around it. Our aim is to hear from many different voices, offer new skills & learning whilst connecting and building communities & connections through art.
No previous experience is required. All of the pieces created will potentially be part of a larger art piece and help create an art invention to address the challenges around seagrass. This will run over the next 2 years.
Your participation would be greatly appreciated.
