Hovertravel is planning a unique fly-past for the Jubilee celebrations. On Friday a hovercraft will make a 70-mile trip around the Solent. Neil Chapman, managing director of Hovertravel tells me they are still finalising the details but: "This two-hour flight will see our hovercraft fly west to pass the Needles before looping back east to speed past Hayling Island and is Hovertravel's gesture of gratitude to Her Majesty for her 70 years of service to the country." The idea is for everyone to be able to see the 'extraordinary outing' and they will run a photo competition to see who can capture the most patriotic image. Their craft are fully-liveried up with the Union Flag so it'll be a wonderful sight.

On Saturday, June 4 there will also be a Ships Salute involving vessels in every UK harbour - as they come together to sound a simultaneous long blast on their horn or whistle at 1200 BST.
