Spaces on Cockles are going fast - don't miss out!

Cockles Club places are being booked fast - more than half the spaces were booked the evening bookings went live, and they continue to come in. Please make sure you get your space reserved as soon as possible so your Cockles don't miss out!

Cockles Captains Wanted!

Johnny and Emma, custodians of the Cockles Club for the last 2 years, are now stepping back from an active role in this event, whilst kindly providing support where necessary.

Going forward, the Club's full-time team will play a greater role in the work running this event. So the future of this wonderful event is, of course, safe, but The Club recognises the valuable input that a cadre of Member-based leaders bring and is very much on the lookout for willing candidates to come on board as soon as possible.

If you feel you have the time and energy to assist in bringing this wonderful event together, we want to hear from you.

We also require as many helpers as possible and welcome anybody wishing to participate by offering their time during the week, or the lending of equipment and gardens/space, or anything else which you think could be useful. If you have already made contact, thank you, if not, please email cockles@svyc.org.uk.

Bookings for Cockles Club 2024 can be made by clicking the button here.

Mid-Week & Mermaid Cup Dates

You can see how the season is beginning to shape up using this link, which will filter the Club calendar to show Mermaid racing only.

Training & Q&A Session

Following the last Q&A session held before Christmas, Jon Curtis, Sailing Director and Training Principle is hosting a drop-in Q&A session for any members keen to learn more or ask questions about any aspect of our Club training provision. This session will be held at 10:00 on Saturday 17th February, members are encouraged to join us in the Club in person, or remotely via this link.

Both land and water-based training courses, including the main training weeks, are available to book now, with price incentives due to end in the coming weeks ahead of Easter. Dont hang around if you are keen to take part as places will soon become limited! CLICK HERE to see our Training Courses

Launch Service & Slipway

Our Club launch service begins on Saturday 27th April. Initially operating 08:30 16:30 daily.

Visitor moorings are planned to be laid and in operation by the May bank holiday. We will keep members updated on the progress and update/tighten the schedule.

The Club slipway is due to have work started imminently to shore up the lower section that has exponentially deteriorated thanks to gribble worm infestation and continual sea action.

Members may notice some work taking place over the next low tide windows, the most immediate being this coming weekend when dismantling of the affected area begins. Work will be completed in early April, in good time for the season start.

A more detailed update will be published in the coming weeks as the work progresses.

Website and Classified Updates

Members may have noticed the invoicing area of members' portals has been updated to show purchases and bookings which have not yet been invoiced. This includes bar and food transactions, as well as web bookings. We will continue to optimise how this works. If you want to, take a look in the My Invoices section of our account, or click here. Or just wait until we email your monthly invoice.

The Club has also launched a Classifieds section of the website with local accommodation to supplement our other Classifieds. We will direct charterers to this part of the website, rather than the list that was always out-of-date. Go here if you want to rent out your house when you are not down, or are searching for local accommodation!

Members can post and maintain their own adverts on this platform, access to which is available from the footer of the Club website. We currently have the following categories under which to list adverts:

  • Boats for Sale
  • Boats Wanted
  • Houses to rent
  • Other anything else

Why not take a look at the current listings and post your own?

A Fond Farewell

We close this newsletter with both happy and sad news. Our House Manager of some 15 months, Clare Beioley, is leaving the Club at the end of the month for a new, exciting opportunity.

Clare has accepted a role offered by renowned chef Robert Thompson, leading the Front of House operations at his new restaurant venture due to open in Ryde shortly.

Whilst the Club will be sad to see Clare go, we thank her for her service to SVYC and wish her the very best of luck in her new role. And hope that Clare can help us all get reservations at this new restaurant as much as she has helped us at the Club.

We are already meeting suitable replacements - you can see the job advert here. If you know anyone who might be suitable, suggest they take a look or contact James.
