Rob Orr's group of 12 cyclists duly completed their 10-day Lands End to John O'Groats challenge in glorious weather last Saturday. They did this ride in aid of the Seaview Sailing Trust.

Their trip was a total of 980 miles - 100 miles a day - and 20,000m of elevation. They endured 40 knots of side wind and torrential rain crossing Dartmoor on the 2nd day and temperature down to 7.5 degrees with cold rain crossing the Cairngorms on the 8th day. In between, they had a mix of some sunny spells and showers during what was unseasonal July weather but luckily the wind was behind them most days. Not one single puncture and Rob's 10-year old aluminium Trek bike - 3kg heavier than most other carbon bikes - had no mechanical issues. Body and mind held up surprisingly well but his 'bum bones' were aching by the end…..!

Most importantly, Rob is delighted to confirm that he smashed his £10k fundraising target for Seaview Sailing Trust and this means an additional £10k will be donated by a very generous anonymous donor who has agreed to match fund! He also raised £9k for 40tude, a colon cancer research charity.

Rob has asked to thank the membership so much for all your generous support.
