Half the Mermaid fleet were OCS (On Course Side) on Monday. Rosemary, Scuttle, Sheen, Zara, Dragonfly, Miranda and Halluf can be seen over the line. Nobody went back. There was not enough wind on Tuesday for any racing. The Mermaids are enjoying some excellent racing at Cowes. â€œBluebellâ€ skippered by Charles Tilley currently leads the fleet, closely followed by â€œAmethystâ€ with Charles Glanville on the helm. The Mermaid fleet are back off Seaview and looking really splendid in the glorious sunshine we are enjoying at present. The Shakedown Race takes place on Wednesday 24th April, scheduled to start at 18:00 but will probably start no later that 18:30 and after the race there will be a supper. The Commodore's Trophy has been awarded since 1985 for a special achievement outside Seaview waters. This year the Commodore wished to acknowledge an achievement that dates back to 1980 but which finally achieved recognition in the 2012 Olympic Year. On 13th March SVYC's plucky team battled against strong adversaries from the Royal Solent YC and Island Sailing Club in the 2013 RNLI Winter Quiz Final. On Friday 15[^th^] February our brainy quiz team, consisting of Lis and Mike Randall, John Turner and Johnnie King, won a well-deserved place in the final of the RNLI Quiz which raises funds for the Cowes Lifeboat. Amongst the seventy four who enjoyed the supper on Friday 18th January laid on to taste the produce of our new Chef, Michael (Mike) Fuller, was our oldest member, Stan King. It also happened to be Stanâ€™s 98th birthday. Many happy returns Stan. It was a great evening and the meal was a big success. Everyone was asking when will we do it again? Could this be the start of something big?
