    Sydney to Hobart Race

    The 69th Rolex Sydney to Hobart race; open to monohull yachts from 30ft to 100ft, took place in a real mixed bag of weather from very light, shifty winds and flat seas to gusts of 49 knots and very large seas on the final day.     Festive Lunch raises funds for Air Ambulance

    One hundred people thoroughly enjoyed their delicious lunch in the Club on Wednesday 11th December at the annual Christmas charity fundraising event, for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. Father Christmas paid a brief visit and helped with the raffle. About £600 was collected for this most worthy and always very needy cause.     Seven Mermaids over the line at the start of Monday's race at Cowes

    Half the Mermaid fleet were OCS (On Course Side) on Monday. Rosemary, Scuttle, Sheen, Zara, Dragonfly, Miranda and Halluf can be seen over the line. Nobody went back. There was not enough wind on Tuesday for any racing.     Mermaids competing at Cowes Week

    The Mermaids are enjoying some excellent racing at Cowes. “Bluebell” skippered by Charles Tilley currently leads the fleet, closely followed by “Amethyst” with Charles Glanville on the helm.     Our girls are back in the water and looking wonderful

    The Mermaid fleet are back off Seaview and looking really splendid in the glorious sunshine we are enjoying at present. The Shakedown Race takes place on Wednesday 24th April, scheduled to start at 18:00 but will probably start no later that 18:30 and after the race there will be a supper.     Commodore's Trophy for 2013

    The Commodore's Trophy has been awarded since 1985 for a special achievement outside Seaview waters. This year the Commodore wished to acknowledge an achievement that dates back to 1980 but which finally achieved recognition in the 2012 Olympic Year.   • SVYC were just a handful of points behind winners in RNLI Quiz

    On 13th March SVYC's plucky team battled against strong adversaries from the Royal Solent YC and Island Sailing Club in the 2013 RNLI Winter Quiz Final. After a shaky start our brainy team, consisting of Lis and Mike Randall, John Turner and Johnnie King, fought back hard but were up against an excellent team from RSYC and just failed to bridge the gap in the points.
