    Commodore's Trophy for 2013

The Commodore's Trophy has been awarded since 1985 for a special achievement outside Seaview waters. This year the Commodore wished to acknowledge an achievement that dates back to 1980 but which finally achieved recognition in the 2012 Olympic Year. Just before the Moscow Olympics, the Soling Class Olympic trial was won by a team of three young men, two of which were members of this club. Russia then invaded Afghanistan and in protest the US

  • SVYC were just a handful of points behind winners in RNLI Quiz

On 13th March SVYC's plucky team battled against strong adversaries from the Royal Solent YC and Island Sailing Club in the 2013 RNLI Winter Quiz Final. After a shaky start our brainy team, consisting of Lis and Mike Randall, John Turner and Johnnie King, fought back hard but were up against an excellent team from RSYC and just failed to bridge the gap in the points. We would like to thank the Clubs who hosted the heats and

    The Birth of Something Big?

Amongst the seventy four who enjoyed the supper on Friday 18th January laid on to taste the produce of our new Chef, Michael (Mike) Fuller, was our oldest member, Stan King. It also happened to be Stan’s 98th birthday. Many happy returns Stan. It was a great evening and the meal was a big success. Everyone was asking when will we do it again? Could this be the start of something big?

  • From the Commodore

It is not often that a Club such as ours has as members both of the two most important office holders in the county. Martin White has held office as the Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight for the last 6 years and Nick Hayward has held office for one year ending a few days after the dinner. This seemed as good an excuse as any to hold a dinner in the club, as a

  • Commodore's trophy 2012

This trophy is awarded to a Member in recognition of an outstanding achievement outside Seaview waters. I was most pleased to make the award for 2011 to Jason Lawrence in recognition of his 3,050 mile passage single handed in his 46 foot catamaran, Pegasus, from the Maldives to Egypt. Having crossed the Arabian Sea he entered the Gulf of Aden. These waters off the north coast of Somalia, and well known as pirate alley, are currently the
