Westmacott regatta

The Jubilee weekend saw a Regatta held to celebrate the Centenary of the 1922 Alfred Westmacott designed Mermaids, the 2nd generation of the Seaview Mermaid. The 3 remaining Seaview boats were joined by other local Westmacott designed Classes, the Victories from Portsmouth Sailing Club and Bembridge One Designs from Bembridge. The strong winds meant that the planned 2 day Regatta was compressed into a single afternoon but all enjoyed the sailing off Seaview. To round off the celebrations, the Club hosted a supper in the Mermaid Room at which 40 guests were entertained by a superb history of Alfred Westmacott and his connections with Seaview and the East Wight, by Graham Pountney in character as Mr. Westmacott.
