Passage Race from Cowes to SVYC - Solent Cup

11th August 2018, 14:30 - 16:00

SOLENT CUP
Challenge Cup presented in 1912 by James Clarkson for a “Race of 25 miles inside the Solent”. This followed a previous “Solent Cup” given by Mr. Clarkson in 1909 and awarded to the winner of a “Race of 25 miles inside the Isle of Wight”, won by Mr. A.S.Gordon which was presented to the Club after his death and is now given for a race in the Daring Class. In 1912 this Challenge Cup was presented by Mr. Clarkson for a similar race and was competed for until 1939, but then not again until 1955. It was then raced for regularly, sometimes around Motherbank buoy off Ryde, but on at least one occasion round the Nab Tower. Since 1973 it has been awarded to the winner of the passage race back to Seaview at the end of Cowes Week for inexperienced helms.
